Somewhere between vape tax protest, workplace fever dream, and deeply unnecessary musical experiment sits Rousing Songs for Solitary Amusements, the first extremely unofficial Manabush album.
This genre-spanning collection of deranged little numbers wanders shamelessly through Goth, Darkwave, Polka, Ska, Reggae, World Music, Experimental, and Country, often in the same breath and occasionally against medical advice. It was created for humour, for the craic, and because apparently nobody stopped us in time.
Part protest record, part in-joke archive, part sonic nonsense cupboard, it covers such pressing topics as Manabush e-liquids, the incoming Vape Tax, hamster neglect, the parameters and cosmic function of folding chairs, shit we talk about at work, and, naturally, plug-in solar installations.
Is it serious?
A bit.
Is it stupid?
Absolutely.
Is it a lovingly assembled artefact of workplace madness, vape-tax frustration, and BigBadBil-powered musical tomfoolery?
Very much so.
The album is free of charge and included with digital ownership, because charging money for this would raise legal, moral, and possibly spiritual questions.
Expect no polished rock-opera sincerity here. Expect protest, custard, questionable ventilation, industrial noises, goth nonsense, polka skirmishes, reggae detours, country-flavoured regret, experimental wobbling, unexpected sincerity, and at least one hamster that may or may not have been adequately consulted.
